As part of our final project, we had to choose between working on a dissertation or a documentary, which could be video or radio.
As a way to challenge myself, I chose to work on a radio documentary on the freedom of speech debate popular in Spain at the time. Before I started on the documentary, prominent pro-independence activists were jailed accused of inciting violence and sedition against the state.
Many in Catalonia saw this as sham accusations, citing video proof of the activists asking the protesters, who were obstructing the police from entering a government building to seize documents; to go home and let the police do what they were ordered to do.
The documentary explores Spain's relationship with freedom of expression since the last Spanish dictator, Francisco Franco, who only died in 1975.
The documentary earned me a 2:1 grade.
